They
are the origins of Océane. In 1993,
nine of them came together to create the trademark
that now guarantees consumers a constant,
high level of quality, from greenhouse to
supermarket.
Initially specialising in the production of
tomatoes and cucumbers in heated greenhouses,
in 1997, Océane's associated fruit
and vegetable growers were joined by fourteen
outdoor growers and two other vegetables,
lamb's lettuce and leeks. Then, in 2002, a
new grower brought in hand-harvested radishes.
In between times (in 2001), Océane
had bought a sales company in order to take
charge of the three main stages of the process:
production, packing and marketing, and had
also drawn up regular harvest schedules and
forecasts.
Océane's associated growers rapidly
increased their global volume of production
from 15,000 to 20,000 tonnes a year, reaching
62,000 tonnes today. Products are sold on
the French market, of course, but also on
the European market (20%).
Though it has grown in size and increased
the tonnages of products grown and dispatched,
Océane has lost none of the expertise,
methods and spirit of its early pioneers.
Similarly, the group's objectives have stayed
the same: |
 |
 |
To unite
the production of member fruit and vegetable
growers in the Nantes Region under a
common trademark; |
 |
To create,
apply, monitor and control the specifications
for each product so that it meets market
demands as well as the demands for quality
and traceability; |
 |
To optimise
sales flow by centralising the offer
from a quality and quantity point of
view, to facilitate the flow of sales
information and to encourage growers
to strive for every higher quality by
improving their revenues. |
